Wall Shelving Unit
This project's function was to humanize the scale of an oddly proportioned builders's bland detailing of a newly constructed townhome on Chicago's North Shore. All the builder offered was a chair rail and crown molding on massive amounts of plain drywall.
Since TV's are now flat and just mount on the wall and we tend not to build entertainment centers anymore, the placement of the TV is ever so more important now. The TV's placement with regard to the viewers and to the furnishings in the room is important consideration in bringing harmony and balance to the space.
Since the room was about 11' tall it was nice to blend the vertical nature of the fireplace to the horizontal planes brought about with the floating walnut shelves.
